UNIW’s 40th Council Meeting Held in Malaysia
The 40th Council Meeting of the Union of NGOs of the Islamic World (UNIW) was held on Friday, 25 September 2026, at the Royal Park Hotel in Putrajaya, Malaysia.
The 40th Council Meeting of the Union of NGOs of the Islamic World (UNIW) was held on Friday, 25 September 2026, at the Royal Park Hotel in Putrajaya, Malaysia. Hosted by Wadah Pencerdasan Umat Malaysia (WADAH), the meeting addressed UNIW’s activities, developments in different regions, and cooperation among member organizations.
The meeting began with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an, followed by an opening address from UNIW Secretary General Eyüp Akbal. WADAH President Dato’ Ahmad Azam Ab Rahman, Türkiye’s Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Prof. Dr. Halis Yunus Ersöz, and UNIW Honorary President Necmi Sadıkoğlu also addressed the participants.
In the first session, UNIW Deputy Secretary General Dr. İbrahim Altan presented the Union’s recent work and plans for the coming period. Osman Nuri Kabaktepe, President of the Platform for Support to Palestine, discussed Palestine; Fauwaz Hasbullah, UNIW Deputy Secretary General and WADAH Vice President, spoke on family issues. Halit İsaoğlu, a UNIW Council Member and former President of the International Federation of Civil Society Organizations (ULFED), gave a presentation on Syria.
İbrahim Haggı Yıldırım, Vice President of the Hayrat Humanitarian Aid Association, provided information about the International Sudan Workshop planned for October 2026 in Istanbul. Selim Yıldız described the situation in Arakan, while Ecevit Öksüz, Secretary General of Anadolu University, introduced the university’s Global Campus initiative. Dr. Mustafa Özdemir delivered a presentation on the geopolitics of Islamic movements worldwide.
The second session covered the budget, membership dues, and the contributions of Council members. Participants discussed ways for Council members to strengthen communication and cooperation with member organizations in their regions, as well as new membership applications. Following discussions on the date and venue of the 41st Council Meeting, proposed for November 2026 in Istanbul, the meeting concluded with closing remarks and a prayer.
